New York, NY – May 6, 2013 – Award winning artist Suzanne LaFleur has been selected to exhibit with Benefit Print Project at PULSE Contemporary Art Fair, New York being held May 9-12, 2013.  Suzanne LaFleur is a New York based artist who is known for her dynamic and colorful abstract oil paintings.  She will be showing works on paper from her new pastel and watercolor series.

These latest works mark a fresh direction for LaFleur, displaying her vigorous explorations of color, line, and form through new materials.  The featured pastel was recently honored with the prestigious Flora Giffuni Memorial Award by the National Arts Club, New York.  In this piece, LaFleur employs expressive line and vibrant colors to produce a kinetic energy that pulsates throughout the entire composition.  At the same time, these formal elements are built up on the paper’s surface to create a sense of depth and intransience.  The artist will also be unveiling a new watercolor from The Nature Series, which is comprised of four works on paper.  Demonstrating her strong understanding of color, LaFleur has painted an abstract image that gives the impression of looking up through a beautifully sunlit canopy of leaves.

Benefit Print Project boasts an exciting roster for PULSE this year.  Other artists on view include El Anatsui, Helen Frankenthaler, Jeff Koons, David LaChapelle, Vik Muniz, Tal R, Joel Shapiro, Donald Sultan, and Mickalene Thomas.  Established in 2010 under the direction of Thomas W. Lollar and Paul Limperopulos, Benefit Print Project coordinates the creation of limited edition prints to raise money for non-profit arts organizations.

Suzanne LaFleur lives and works in New York City and has been an artist there and abroad for the last 10 years.  She has exhibited in Lebanon, Kuwait, and parts of Europe and Asia.  In 2010, she made her Chelsea debut in the exhibition titled Constructed Spirits at Coleman Burke Gallery, New York.  In 2012, she made her New York solo debut in the exhibition titled Untamed at Bogardus Mansion in Tribeca.  Regarding her PULSE selection, LaFleur stated “I am deeply honored to have my work alongside such giants as Helen Frankenthaler, El Anatsui, and Jeff Koons, and am grateful to Benefit Print Project for this extraordinary opportunity.”

LaFleur’s work will be displayed in the VIP Lounge of PULSE throughout the four-day exhibition.  PULSE will take place at the Metropolitan Pavilion (125 West 18th Street). Fair hours are Thursday, May 9 (12-6pm), Friday, May 10 (11am-8pm), Saturday, May 11 (11am-8pm), and Sunday, May 12 (11am-7pm).
