Press Release – Award-winning Artist Suzanne LaFleur to Exhibit at Park Avenue Armory

7060-330
New York, NY – Oct. 6, 2013/ – Award-winning Artist Suzanne LaFleur has been selected to exhibit with Lawrence Fine Arts at the Antiques Art & Design at the Armory being held October 9 – 13. The artist will be showing selected works on paper from her “Reflex, Reflection” series.

Known for her abstract expressionist oil paintings, LaFleur recently began exploring the expressive capabilities of pastel and paper to a captivating effect. The “Reflex, Reflection” series displays the artist’s mastery of color in combination with a gestural articulation of line and form. LaFleur states:

I am working without conscious thought or intention. This can be seen as ‘automatism’ or REFLEX. Once a work is complete, I am free to view it as any observer would. The completed piece then serves as a mirror, or REFLECTION on to myself, allowing my conscious mind to make observations and gain insights into my own subconscious expression.

Observed are beautifully layered compositions that oscillate between kinetic and serene. While the works on view are very different from the next, LaFleur’s unbroken flow of emotional sublime, which is sensed throughout, serves to unite the series as a whole.

Lawrence Fine Art, East Hampton lists a strong roster for the show this year, singling out some of the greatest talents from over the last century. Gallery Director Howard Shapiro states, “This is our first outing with the Avenue Show and we are absolutely putting our best foot forward. These are strong examples by each artist.” Also on view will be early 20th century French and American painters Maximilien Luce, George Rouault, and Reynolds Beal and mid-century abstract painter and “Lost Master” Arthur Pinajian. LaFleur will be joined by contemporary artist Harriette Joffe.
